What's the best way to implement a mapping layer in a REST API?
I'm designing a REST API which is meant to be more or less equivalent to the Ruby on Rails environment. I'm using the Builder pattern for the API code.
What I would like to do is offer a mapping layer that allows me to generate (in code) a representation of the data for a given resource, including methods like "list", "save", etc.
Right now, I'm imagining it as a WCF service, offering methods like "list/Businesses", "save/Business", etc.
My question is: What's the best way to implement this kind of mapping layer?
I considered using POROs, but I don't want to have to make a mapping layer for every new data model.
I thought of creating an interface for each data model, and implement that interface on a mapping service. For instance, a mapping service for the "Employee" entity could look like this:
